What’s New in the 2022 Toyota Tundra?
The Toyota Tundra has been one of the most reliable pickup trucks ever since it launched way back in 1999. The 2021 Toyota Tundra set some of the highest quality standards in its class and went on to be judged the highest quality full-size pickup truck in the 2021 J.D Power Initial Quality Study. And now, Toyota has gone ahead and introduced an overhauled 2022 Toyota Tundra. What’s new in the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra? Well, keep reading this blog post from Lexington Toyota in Lexington, MA to find out.
The revamped 2022 Toyota Tundra has been redesigned from the ground up to be the toughest, most advanced, and most bolder-looking Tundra to date. The all-American pickup which will be assembled in San Antonio, TX, features a brand-new styling that’s sure to turn many heads.
It now flaunts a redesigned front end with a gigantic front grille and sleek sharp-looking headlights that render it an aggressive look while giving it a big truck appearance.
Powerful-Yet-Efficient V6 Powertrains
Not only that, under the hood of the 2022 Tundra is a standard 3.5L, twin-turbo, V6 i-FORCE engine that produces an impressive 389 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque, all while saving more fuel than before. There’s also an upgraded hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain variant with a bell-housing motor that churns out a staggering 437 horses and up to 583 lb.-ft. of torque. Both the engines are more powerful and significantly efficient than the outgoing V8 of the 2021 Tundra which will be discontinued soon. The engines come mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission and you get a choice of 4×2 as well as 4×4 drivetrains.
12,000 Pound Towing Capacity
The powerful V6 engines along with redesigned high-strength boxed steel-ladder frame and a fully revamped multi-link rear suspension and rear shocks which are now mounted outside the frame rails enable the Tundra to tow up to 12,000 pounds! That’s roughly 18 percent more than what the 2021 Tundra could tow. The payload capacity has also been increased by 11 percent over the previous generation with the all-new 2022 Tundra capable of hauling up to 1,940 pounds.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra will also feature a lightweight, corrosion-resistant cargo bed made of a Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) with reinforcing aluminum cross members which offer superior resistance against dents, dings, and rust. You can opt for either a 5.5-feet, 6.5 feet, or 8.1 feet cargo bed.
Packed with Technology
Alongside this, the 2022 Toyota Tundra comes packed with innovative technologies which include Toyota’s all-new Audio Multimedia system and a new Human Machine Interface (HMI). You will now be able to opt for a bigger 14-inch touchscreen besides the standard 8-inch display.
Additionally, you’ll get cloud-based navigation, Toyota Connected Services and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. There’s also a “panoramic view monitor” that uses cameras to display a bird’s-eye view of the truck.
Standard Toyota Sense 2.5 Safety Features
In terms of safety, the 2022 Tundra will offer standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 on all trims. These include an improved Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).
