How do I use the Toyota hands-free liftgate?
Regardless of which of the three vehicles with the Toyota hands-free liftgate a customer takes home; it will pretty much work the same way. The most important thing is to make sure that you have the Toyota Smart Key fob on your person. It can be in your pocket, purse or other bags. The key fob just needs to be close to the vehicle. To open the rear liftgate of a properly equipped vehicle, follow these simple steps:
- Stand directly behind the vehicle, with your sternum lined up with the Toyota badge.
- Using one fluid motion, kick your foot toward the rear bumper of the vehicle.
- Make sure your foot goes under the rear bumper.
- Be careful not to actually kick the vehicle.
Owners of the 2021 Toyota Sienna can use the hands-free system to open the side doors as well. Simply stand by the symbol on the door sill and make the same kicking motion.
Can I close the doors without using hands?
If your hands were full loading your Toyota vehicle, they will also be full when you unload it and walk away. The doors equipped with the automatic opening feature, can also be closed using the same kicking motion when the vehicle owner (or key fob holder) is properly positioned.
