2021 Toyota Sienna vs. 2020 Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna is one of the most capable and adaptable vehicle platforms the automaker has ever produced. For the 2021 model year, our manufacturing partner put the Sienna through a radical redesign process that made it lighter, more maneuverable and more efficient. The Toyota minivan has gone through so many important changes that the product experts working at the Lexington Toyota thought it would be helpful to compare the 2021 Toyota Sienna vs. 2020 Toyota Sienna. Future owners of the 2021 Sienna will have a hybrid powertrain under the hood that will nearly double fuel economy scores over the 2020 model while maintaining the same towing capacity.

Interior Space, Performance Specs and Fuel Economy

In order to allow the redesigned 2021 Toyota Sienna to take full advantage of its standard hybrid powertrain, the automaker’s engineers needed to shed as much weight as possible. When the inside of the 2021 Sienna properly configured there will be up to 101 cubic-feet of cargo volume, which is a bit less than what was available in the 2020 models. Additionally, there will be 33.5 cubic-feet behind the third row and up to 75.2 cubic-feet behind the second row of seats.

While the 2021 Sienna does have a little less cargo volume than the 2020 model, the redesigned version has as much or more legroom for passengers across its three rows of seating. Both model years have seven- and eight-passenger seating layouts.

When the gas-electric system working together, it will make up to 245 net horsepower. The previously available V-6 engine has been discontinued for the 2021 model year. However, owners of the redesigned 2021 Sienna will still be able to pull up to 3,500 pounds and all-wheel-drive is still an available option.

As a member of the Toyota hybrid family, the fuel economy of the 2021 Toyota Sienna is going to major attraction. A 2021 Sienna with front-wheel-drive will be able to achieve up to 36 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. The corresponding version of the 2020 Sienna posted 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
