Two-row crossover SUVs, like the Toyota RAV4, are among the most popular vehicles available in the United States. Now that the current model year is really hitting its stride at the Colonial Toyota showroom, a comparison between the 2021 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2021 Ford Escape will be very important to people who find themselves in the buying cycle.
For the current model year, Toyota has carried many of its most popular crossover SUV’s features over for 2021. That means the 2021 RAV4 will be able to offer more standard power, more interior cargo volume and a more-than-comparable suite of technology when held against its Ford Escape competitor from this year. Independent reviews have praised the 2021 Toyota RAV4 for its comfortable and quiet interior as well as for its smartly designed control panel.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 keeps its same tried-and-true powertrain for the current model year. Drivers will be able to rely on the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will produce 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The base engine used by the 2021 Ford Escape consists of a turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-liter engine, making 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque.
Even with this clear disparity in performance output favoring the 2021 RAV4, both crossover SUVs are able to achieve nearly identical fuel economy scores when the vehicles are equipped with front-wheel-drive. However, an all-wheel-drive version of the 2021 RAV4 will post better efficiency scores than a similarly equipped 2021 Escape.
Both the 2021 RAV4 and 2021 Escape will make a smartphone-compatible infotainment system standard equipment, in addition to a high-speed Wi-Fi mobile hotspot. Toyota offers some additional connectivity through the Amazon Alexa digital home assistant. Owners of the 2021 RAV4 will be able to ask their Alexa to check on the status of their vehicle, like how much fuel is in the gas tank or have directions sent to the automaker’s infotainment system.
