The minivan segment of the global automotive industry is not as broad as it once was, but the remaining platforms available to customers are better than at any point in history. For much of that storied history, the Toyota Sienna has been on the medal stand with its unique blend of interior space, confident handling and overall performance output. For the 2021 model year, Toyota is adding a new chapter to the Sienna story by vastly increasing its fuel economy expectations. A comparison of the 2021 Toyota Sienna vs. 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will fill in the gaps between a good minivan and a great one. The all-new 2021 Toyota Sienna has been completely redesigned to be lighter and more efficient by being the only vehicle in its class with a standard hybrid powertrain.

Each 2021 Toyota Sienna available at the Lexington Toyota showroom will have a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder under the hood that will be attached to a new version of the automaker’s hybrid technology. The entire gas-electric hybrid system will produce 245 net horsepower. While this is a bit less than what the previously used V-6 engine makes, the 2021 Sienna will still be able to tow 3,500 pounds. A 2021 Chrysler Pacifica continues to employ a V-6 engine that will produce nearly 290 horsepower. There is a hybrid version of the Pacifica available, however, this fuel-saving technology is not standard equipment with the Pacifica. Even with this relatively small advantage in power output, the Chrysler minivan will be able to tow just 3,600 pounds.
While the 2021 Sienna might not make as much horsepower as the 2021 Pacifica, the Toyota minivan will more than make up for it in fuel economy. A front-wheel-drive-equipped 2021 Sienna can record up to 36 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. Buyers choosing the 2021 Pacifica will see significantly lower fuel-economy scores, starting at 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway in a base trim.
Both the 2021 Sienna and the 2021 Pacifica are well-equipped with many of the same connectivity options. Each minivan will offer access to the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications, as well as compatibility with the Amazon Alexa digital home assistant. However, of the two minivans, only the 2021 Sienna offers a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot. Several Wi-Fi-enabled devices can use the system at the same time.
